  • You can use the site while nobody else can.
  • Use any "down for maintenance" screen/url you like.
  • Works independantly of other session/config settings.

There are lots of instances where you'll want to be able to access your site while visitors/hackers still can't (such as doing final testing following an upgrade). With this tool, you can use a password protected over-ride switch for this, so that for your current browser session your site is not seen as suspended, even though all other visitors will still get redirected to the down-for-maintenance screen.


Technical/Developer Information:
You can use whatever file/path you want for your "down-for-maintenance" screen by setting a config option.

To turn your site off/on, all you need to do is change a config option in one of the files.

When that config option is set to "Y", any file that has core library files included in it will automatically redirect the visitor to your down-for-maintenance screen before anything else has had a chance to run/execute on the screen that the visitor is trying to access. This is a good way to protect yourself against hackers during upgrades/installs so visitors/hackers will not be able to run setup scripts while your site is suspended.

The sessions that this tool uses are totally separate from other ASP sessions and use their own naming convention that won't conflict with any other software.

This tool has been specifically written so that you can turn a physical area of your site on/off regardless of what happens to your other files or databases.

Because of this "stand-alone" nature of the tool, you can also use it on any asp based system.
